About the Program The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine offers the International Dentist Program (IDP) for the internationally trained dentist who seeks to practice dentistry in the United States. The International Dentist Program is two years in duration, beginning in May with an intensive preparatory summer course. Graduates receive a DDS degree and are eligible to participate in the various licensure examinations given across the country. Admission to the IDP program is highly competitive. A personal interview is required for admission, but does not guarantee acceptance. Applicants to the IDP program may be foreign nationals, United States citizens, or Permanent Residents of the United States. It is essential both for completion of the academic program and for effective communication with patients in the clinics. The interview process consists of an orientation to the School of Dental Medicine, faculty interview, and a bench testing pre- clinical exercise. Candidates invited to interview will be provided with detailed information on how to remit the bench testing fee, and how to plan their travel to Buffalo for the interview and bench testing. Upon completion of the interview process, the Admissions Committee will evaluate and offer provisional acceptances to those selected. |
